Delta AFA Flight Attendant Hotline 3/26/2007

Today is Monday, March 26th and this is an updated hotline message for all Delta Air Lines flight attendants. Delta flight attendant and AFA supporter, Mark Stell reporting...

So...when are we going to have the election?

This is the one question I am asked most often when crews sign their AFA cards. And the runner-up question would be, “How many cards to we have on file?” The answer to both of these questions is that we will have enough cards and support to file for a successful election once we have the necessary number of Delta flight attendants actively campaigning for this goal. You see -- your individual support alone can't make this happen. We need your active involvement.

Three weeks ago we launched the most important phase of our campaign to have a fair and legal voice within our company and industry. We called this launch "OPERATION RECRUIT” because it requires “recruiting” more Delta flight attendants to take an active role in this campaign. This is the phase where we must connect the dots between “our intent to organize” and “the action necessary to win a representational election.” Every time we pick up the mail from our AFA postbox there are hundreds of union cards from our colleagues asking for representation, many of them having checked the “I want to help” box. If you’re one of these flight attendants who checked the box - if you’re a flight attendant who is anxious to cast your vote, then please consider taking on one of the following roles in our campaign.

Regional/State Campaign Leaders – The following states need Delta flight attendants to provide leadership: CA, KY, IL, LA, CO, TN, VA, SC, PA, NJ, AL and CT. If you live in one of these states, and you want to make an election happen, then please contact us at your earliest convenience. This is a crucial position to the success of the campaign! Send an email to deltaorganizing@deltaafa.org

Phone Tree Activists – This is a great role for a flight attendant who wants to have an election but can only spare a few hours a week to the campaign. We will assign you ten (10) fellow flight attendants in your community for the duration of the campaign. You can even have your flight attendant friends or neighbors assigned to you. Simply CLICK HERE, then click the state you live in. An email will be sent the activist(s) in your region and we will take it from there.

Base Mobilization Activists – If you are not willing to be assigned ten (10) flight attendants in your community, perhaps you might be willing to simply carry AFA cards, bag tags or other educational campaign materials with you on your trips? If so, send an email to deltaorganizing@deltaafa.org and we'll do the rest.

AFA supporters are doing their best to contact flight attendants who have expressed interest in helping - - especially the flight attendants who have checked the “I want to help" box. As soon as we get home from our trips we begin our phone calling and we leave a lot of messages on flight attendant phone machines. If you receive one of these messages - or better yet - if you’re waiting to be contacted please give us a call! We have a role for you, large or small, that will make an election happen at Delta.

So...again, when are we going to have the election?

This campaign is committed to calling for an election at the right time -- specifically, when we are strong enough to win one. We must not lose our focus to have a respected, equal and legal voice at Delta Air Lines and in the aviation industry. We do not need to have 100% of our fellow Delta flight attendants initially agree with us, but we do need a passionate majority of Delta flight attendants to believe in the benefits of collective bargaining and representation. If you are one of these flight attendants then now is the time to be a part of the process to make it happen.

This concludes the hotline message. This message will be updated next week or sooner if necessary. In the meantime, take care of each other out there on the line.
