I’ve been a Delta flight attendant for 4 years, and I’m thrilled to be part of organizing our union.

The need is clear. Flight Attendants at Delta shared story after story of outrageous demands by management: people who have been rerouted three times, or calls coming in at 2 and 3 in the morning to move trips up by as much as 12 hours, or Flight Attendants placed in scheduling nightmares after commuter flights are canceled without any support. Other airlines with contracts can’t even contemplate these situations.

Operational meltdowns aren't unique to Delta, but because we don't have a contract, Delta management does have the unique ability to throw our scheduling “rules” out the door for “the needs of the operation."

We're all fighting to extend the Payroll Support Program through March 31, 2021. This Program has kept Delta Flight Attendants and hundreds of thousands of other aviation workers on the job during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through our campaign, Delta Flight Attendants are calling and writing our flying partners urging us to take action. And we need action now more than ever!

COVID-19 is still very much a threat to our health, jobs, industry and entire country. Every airline is reviewing current staffing levels and predictions for the fall, as payroll support and no involuntary furlough requirements end October 1. That’s why we are fighting to extend the CARES Act Payroll Support Program and our job protections through March 2021.

In a letter to Congressional leadership, the leaders of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA-CWA), the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), the Communications Workers of America (CWA), the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), the Transport Workers Union (TWU), and the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), are calling on lawmakers to extend the Payroll Support Program (PSP) in the CARES Act through March 31, 2021.

It has never been more urgent to organize for our Flight Attendant union at Delta. Management comes and goes. We are the constant.

But in a crisis, we can’t count on anything. Without a contract, management can change things overnight. They are already telling us every day how things are changing, without discussion or anything in black and white to protect us.

COVID-19 has forced the country into an unprecedented emergency and the murder of George Floyd has propelled our nation into the streets to demand change and declare that Black Lives Matter. The AFA Executive Board unanimously passed our Black Lives matter resolution last week.
