I’ve been a Delta flight attendant for 4 years, and I’m thrilled to be part of organizing our union.

The need is clear. Flight Attendants at Delta shared story after story of outrageous demands by management: people who have been rerouted three times, or calls coming in at 2 and 3 in the morning to move trips up by as much as 12 hours, or Flight Attendants placed in scheduling nightmares after commuter flights are canceled without any support. Other airlines with contracts can’t even contemplate these situations.

Operational meltdowns aren't unique to Delta, but because we don't have a contract, Delta management does have the unique ability to throw our scheduling “rules” out the door for “the needs of the operation."

Delta Flight Attendants fought hard to help Delta Air Lines secure the necessary relief money through the CARES Act. This money is critical to us as frontline workers to stay on the job and connected to our healthcare.

This money is allocated specifically to ensure that Flight Attendants continue to receive a paycheck, but at Delta we don't have a guaranteed number of hours each month. Our competitors have told their Flight Attendants that they will be paid the minimum 71 hour line guarantee and 75 or 78 hours reserve guarantee, per their contracts.

On April 9, AFA-CWA conducted a Town Hall Conference Call to answer questions in real time from Delta Flight Attendants about our efforts to become full members with AFA as well as issues surrounding COVID-19.

April 3, 2020 — As part of the COVID-19 Relief Act enacted last week, Congress increased by $600 the amount of weekly Unemployment Insurance (UI) payments that laid off and furloughed workers can receive through July 31, 2020.

The grants in the relief package provide paychecks for workers, not bailouts for airlines. Secretary Mnuchin is threatening to take equity on the grants -- leveraging the very people who make aviation fly and who right now are on the frontlines of this pandemic. We are asking President Trump to make sure the Treasury Secretary doesn't dismantle the bipartisan agreement to keep us in our jobs, connected to our paychecks and healthcare. Join us!
We've seen catastrophe before. We know what didn't work before and we won't let those things happen again. We need relief that focuses on real people. And we have a plan for that. Send a letter to your Members of Congress to demand that any public relief plan be a People First plan with legally-binding rules, including paycheck continuation.
