I’ve been a Delta flight attendant for 4 years, and I’m thrilled to be part of organizing our union.

The need is clear. Flight Attendants at Delta shared story after story of outrageous demands by management: people who have been rerouted three times, or calls coming in at 2 and 3 in the morning to move trips up by as much as 12 hours, or Flight Attendants placed in scheduling nightmares after commuter flights are canceled without any support. Other airlines with contracts can’t even contemplate these situations.

Operational meltdowns aren't unique to Delta, but because we don't have a contract, Delta management does have the unique ability to throw our scheduling “rules” out the door for “the needs of the operation."

Happy Thanksgiving! Flight Attendants play an integral role in bringing families and friends together. Many of us sacrifice our own holiday to ensure the safety and comfort of millions of travelers. We are in a unique position to influence the tone of our nation - and that starts in the way we take care of each other.

For over a year and a half Flight Attendants at Delta have been experiencing the effects of toxic uniforms. This is a relatively new issue in our industry, but AFA has taken this issue on and defined it through the work of our industrial hygienist, Judith Anderson.

The nation’s largest flight attendant union is organizing a campaign at Delta Air Lines, promising the roughly 25,000 eligible workers, “a voice, respect, and fairness on the job.”

In a video posted Friday, Association of Flight Attendants-CWA International President Sara Nelson said the union has heard from thousands of Delta flight attendants wanting to organize.

Delta is the biggest airline in the US to have flight attendants who are nonunion. But that may be about to change.
